Award Dr. Russell Dohner the Presidential Medal of Freedom

Created by M.K. on November 16, 2012

From Monday to Saturday, 87-year old Dr. Russell Dohner of Rushville, IL, opens his doors at 10am after visiting the hospital. He takes patients on a first-come-first-serve basis. Instead of accepting medical insurance, Dr. Dohner charges patients a mere $5 per visit (a cost that has risen from $2 in 1955); sometimes even waiving the fee completely. On Thursdays, the doctor closes at noon to visit with residents of the local nursing home. On Sundays, he sees patients before church and visits the hospital after.

Such a distinction would not only reward Dr. Dohner for his approximately 60 years of great sacrifice, but would set a precedent of good ethics to all those in public service.
