We feel that addittional funds should be available for children entering college after facing the hardships brought upon them by an absent parent. The requirements should be that they have a case with their state's Division of Support Enforcement verifying that they have had no financial aid, and have been abandoned by their non-custodial parent. They should be required to have shown academic excellence and thereby earned entrance into their chosen college. Also, the ability to have Stafford loans available to completely fund any out of pocket tuition and expenses, not covered by awarded aid, should be their right. Many children, due to the events brought on by lack of support during their lifetime, cannot qualify for private loans. Please don't let these children fall between the cracks!
