The Presidential Medal of Freedom is awarded for "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors".
Jon Stewart, for his exceptional contributions to our national dialogue; his work with the USO; his charity work; his contribution to causes such as the 9/11 First Responders Bill and the reform of the VA; his criticism of the news media; and his achievements in the art of comedy, deserves official recognition as a national role model for media figures specifically and for American citizens generally.
As such, I propose that he be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
