These teachers sacrificed their lives with no thought to personal safety in order to protect the students under their care. They did so with no training or experience in handling life threatening situations. Their actions directly saved the lives of many of their students. They displayed a level of courage to which every citizen of our nation should aspire, and as such are deserving of the highest civilian award in the land.
