While Sgt. 1st Class Alwyn Cashe was deployed to Iraq in 2005, an IED detonated next to his Bradley. While rescuing his Soldiers from the burning Bradley, he caught on fire. Without regard for his well being, Cashe rescued 6 Soldiers while he suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns on more than 2/3 of his body. Cashe ultimately succumbed to his injuries Nov. 8, 2005 at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
Cashe has been awarded the Silver Star for this action, but it should be upgraded to the MoH. There is no other way Cashe could go above and beyond the call of duty like he did that fateful day.
