George Clinton began as a doo wop singer in the late 1950's, and staff song writer for Motown Records and other independent labels in the 1960's. He is primarily known as the founder of Parliament-Funkadelic, rising to fame in the 1970's with over 40 R&B hits. He has been particularly instrumental in shaping the development of soul, funk, hip-hop, and indie rock. Clinton's continued influence on American music is ubiquitous.
