In recognition for her courageous action at Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy, where she engaged an armed man intent on bringing on his own death by killing others, armed only with her intellect, compassion and bravery. Her willingness to risk her own life and open a dialog with the gunman while the school was evacuated commends her as a true American hero. Were she a member of our nation's armed services her actions in a hostile zone would have qualified her for the Medal of Honor. She prevented an armed attack on hundreds of elementary school children by a young man armed with an AK-47 style semi-automatic rifle and other weapons. She deserves the eternal gratitude of the entire nation, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom would constitute its appropriate demonstration.
