award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Charles Albert Poland Jr., the heroic bus driver in Alabama.

Created by E.E. on February 07, 2013

Jimmy Lee Dykes, a Vietnam veteran, boarded a Dale County school bus and demanded the driver hand over two children. The driver, Charles Albert Poland Jr., also a Vietnam veteran, refused, blocking access to the bus’s narrow aisle as at least 21 children escaped out of the back emergency door. Dykes shot and killed Charles Poland, Jr.. Charles Poland, Jr. heroically gave his life to protect the children under his care and we the people call upon President Obama to posthumously award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Charles Poland, Jr.
