The Boeing 747 is a true American icon. It is readily recognized around the world and a pride and joy of American technological excellence. Joseph Sutter was the chief engineer and instrumental in heading the team which developed the 747. The Smithsonian Air and Space Magazine has described Sutter as "The father of the 747". He is a true American hero and should rightly be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
