For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of her life above and beyond the call of duty as a first-grade teacher on December 14, 2012. Ms. Victoria Soto distinguished herself by extraordinary heroism by sacrificing her life protecting many of her first-grade students at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Newtown, Connecticut, from rifle fire during a massacre. Ms. Soto had the calm and collected presence of mind during unfathomable horror to hide many of her children and shield them from the gunman before the gunman took her life. Ms. Soto's daring acts of courage in the face of overwhelming evil is in keeping with the highest traditions of teaching and reflect great credit upon herself, her elementary school, the United States of America and teachers all over the world.
