Rachel D'Avino, Dawn Hochsprung, Anne Marie Murphy, Lauren Rousseau, Mary Sherlach and Victoria Soto, were true American heroes, who not only were on the front lines of educating our nation's youth, but died defending them when an unthinkable tragedy occurred in their school. We therefore ask President Obama to posthumously bestow the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the civilian equivalent of the Congressional Medal of Honor, to these six educators. And though no money can every replace the lives of these heroes, in recognition of their sacrifice, we ask the President to award the equivalent of a military death benefit to their families.
