The late Stephanie Kowlek, who died this week was a chemist at E.I. DuPont whose research led to the invention of Kevlar fabric, the material used in body armor. Her invention has saved the lives of at least 3000 law enforcement officers in the US. It has also, no doubt, saved thousands of members of members of the US military and thousands more around the world.
In addition to her live saving research she is an inspiration to young women around the world in the fields of science and chemistry.
