In the early morning hours of January 20, 2014, 8-year old Tyler Doohan of Penfield NY awoke to discover a blazing fire in his grandfather's home. Tyler went through the trailer and was able to wake six people — including two other children, ages 4 and 6 — who all made it out alive. After escorting his other family members out of the fire, Tyler went back in to try to help his uncle Steven Smith, who was confined to a wheelchair because he'd lost part of a leg. Neither made it out alive. Tyler's extraordinary heroism and selflessness reflect great credit upon him and the United States of America. This is the type of person who should be awarded the Medal of Freedom.
