Members of the Armed Forces of the United States should be eligible for the Purple Heart Medal for psychological injuries including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder sustained "in any action against an enemy of the United States or as a result of an act of any such enemy or opposing armed forces." Our neighbor and ally Canada is awarding the Sacrifice Medal (which corresponds to our Purple Heart) to members of the Canadian Military who sustain a "Mental disorder diagnosed by qualified mental health practitioner and directly attributable to hostile action...Operational Stress Injury (OSI) resulting from enemy action or suicide caused by such mental disorders related to hostile action." (OSI includes anxiety disorders, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other conditions).
