We are seeking to petition President Obama to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Rev. Donte Hickman, Sr. of Baltimore, MD. for Exemplary American Spirit, Heart & Attitude in the wake of the Freddie Gray incident. Tending to his flock and community despite overwhelming and often times insurmountable odds.
Rev. Hickman, the Southern Baptist Church of Baltimore, Community Leaders, and Activists came together to plan and build a community center in Baltimore City. During rioting and looting on the streets of Baltimore on Monday 27 April 2015 the Community Center and sixty unit low-income apartment complex was set on fire and destroyed.
Hope seemed lost, until local leaders and businesses stepped forward to rebuild the center and apartments free of charge.
