award Roger Ebert the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Created by J.S. on December 20, 2012

Roger Ebert approaches film with an American heart. He recognizes greatness anywhere it exists, from a small documentary ("Hoop Dreams"), to a foreign animated film ("Spirited Away"), to an action blockbuster ("Raiders of the Lost Ark"), or a classic ("Rear Window"). He judges films with his head but also his heart, so his reviews are intellectually consistent, but never unkind. He pioneered movie criticism on television, has written more than two dozen books, and in the wake of a death-defying bout with cancer, continues to write on film, politics, and spirituality.
