We the People request that Mr. William "Bill" Boyd Watterson, II be awarded the National Humanities Medal for the following achievements:
1) The creation of his comic strip Calvin and Hobbes, which, in addition to receiving critical acclaim, provided a valuable contribution to American culture through uproarious wit, sharp satire of society and politics, insight on deep philosophical matters, and improving the overall artistic quality of newspaper comics;
2) His vigorous defense of artistic integrity and the protection of intellectual property.
