Amazingly in 2015, some USG federal regulations still require their customers to submit information by fax machine. This is bad governance, inefficient and slows the speed of crucial information sharing. FDA's infrastructure still uses faxes for food recalls even though their State and Local food safety partners are able to upload findings with iPads. The CDC Select Agent program requires faxes of Forms used to authorize shipments and transfers of pathogens. There might be other regulatory programs which are stuck in the government bureaucracy lacking funds to update, but this is an area where Obama could leave a legacy of efficiency and customer service. Faster info sharing could be key for issues related to homeland security as well. Ax the Fax could apply to additional USG regs.
