back HR 1351, support this bipartisan bill and announce this bill is not a bailout and uses zero taxpayer dollars.

Created by S.W. on October 08, 2011

Americans are misinformed about the Postal Service. We use zero taxpayer dollars and haven't since around 1971. Our entire service is supported by sales and services that the Postal Service provides. The Postal Service is the only company who puts all its profits in the general fund thus not having savings available when needed. The USPS is required by Congress to pre-fund future retirement for 75 years at the accelerated rate of 100% over 10 years. This action created by Congress in 2006 is a major factor in our current financial situation. The USPS has enough money in our prefunded retirement to last for decades if we stopped right now. Furthermore, we would have turned a profit of 611 million dollars over the last four years had the USPS not been saddled with this rediculous prefunding.
