Ban the act of declawing cats without complete medical necessity

Declawing cats is not simply the act of removing the nail. If you've ever had to get a nail removed because of an injury, you know that they grow back. Declawing a cat means you have to take off the joint the claw grows from, like amputating the first digit on your fingers. This can lead to increased aggression, difficulties walking, and persistent pain after the surgery. Declawed cats will often default to biting straight away to defend themselves, which defeats the purpose for those who simply declaw to "protect their children" and can be more dangerous for the cat if they are trying to protect themselves from another animal. Declawing cats is already illegal in almost two dozen countries and it is time that we add our name to the list.
