Ban advertisements for pharmaceuticals

I am requesting a ban on the advertisement of pharmaceuticals on television, radio, online or in general magazines. Since pharmaceuticals can only be obtained by a physician authorizing a prescription, physicians should be the only targets of advertising for pharmaceuticals. These ads are harmful, and misleading to the general public, promising cures or relief for their ailments while an auctioneer rattles off a litany of potential side effects. The pharmaceutical companies are also spending great sums of money on these ads which only cause the costs of these medications to soar. I believe it is in the public's best interest to have their physician recommend treatment for their illnesses, and not have the patient demanding these expensive, and potentially inappropriate medications.
