Marriage is a religious institution that has invaded the American legal system as a lawful combination of two separate lives into one. The first amendment to the Constitution promises us, as American citizens, the right for church and state to be separated. Marriage of all types have always been more of a hindrance than a means to succeed. In order to prevent the massive problems that marriages cause, such as people staying together unhappily merely because it is expected of them under the idea of "til death do us part", American society should reject and remove the institution of marriage and move on to more progressive ideals.
