Gleefully indulging in Nursery Rhymes like ‘Eenie, Meenie, Miney, Moe’ to choose who was "It" for games of hide n' seek was huge growing up. A lot of us learned to count by reciting ‘Five Little Monkeys’ and ALL of us know the chime of the Ice Cream Truck. These songs are associated with lightheartedness and education but these and many more songs like them have very degrading roots- all in mimicry of people of color.
Us keeping these songs alive giveway to us continuously backsliding- we're unwillingly/unknowingly aiding racism and the racial divide in America.
Kids grow up, in this case especially kids of color to learn the true meanings of these songs.
