Ban assault style weapons, magazines over 5 rounds; and conduct background checks on the owners of all firearms.

The creation of a sensible firearm policy in the United States. The intent of this petition is to ban assault style weapons and high capacity magazines and attempt to insure all firearms are only in the hands of law abiding citizens who are not a danger to others. As such all current possessors of firearms would have to undergo a background check. To only hold background checks of those new purchasers of firearms would over look the hundreds of millions of firearms already in the hands of private citizens in our nation. All assault style weapons and high capacity magazines would have to be turned in, all those who did not pass a background check would have to turn in their firearms. Better safe than sorry.
