Gestation crates are among the most cruel of all factory farming systems; they cause extreme suffering for pigs, both mentally and physically, and 93 percent of the people of New Jersey want them banned.
Basically, gestation crates are metal boxes that you cannot move around in, and leads to mental and physical illness when kept there your whole life. Doesn't that seem wrong to use on any living thing, especially mammals?
Unfortunately, Governor Chris Christie vetoed the bill (S. 1921) that would have ended the use of gestation crates in NJ and would have replaced gestation crates with "group housing" which provides a significantly better living situation that does not lead to physical or mental distress like "gestation crates" create.
Please abolish the use of all gestation crates.
