I am a mother of school aged children residing in Georgia. My son experienced Corporal Punishment during his 5th grade school year. I was outraged and sought justice for him. My attemps we unsuccessful because Corporal Punishment in schools is legal in my state. Corporal Punishment is a form of abuse. Corporal Punishment had its time, the time is now over. There are several studies on the effects of Corporal Punishment, concluding students who experienced punishment are at risk to experience different types of mental disorders, including depression and mania. Other risks can include an increased likelihood to abuse drugs and alcohol.
The world and the people in it are changing, Corporal Punishment in all US schools should be banned.
