Ban Digital Rights Management

Created by S.T. on November 09, 2014

Digital rights management, DRM, should be banned because they are ineffective and only harm the legitimate consumer. Researchers from Rice and Duke stated that "only the legal users pay the price and suffer from the restrictions" and "illegal users are not affected because the pirated product does not have DRM restrictions." The study also showed that the removal of DRM leads to a decrease in piracy. DRM is obviously ineffective at preventing piracy because the pirated material exists and as such only harms the legitimate consumer.
