This petition is designed to remove cannabis (THC) as an acceptable compound to disqualify a candidate for employment if present in a drug test. Although marijuana is a controlled substance, there are many plausible reasons why this proposition should be enacted:
a) There is increasing evidence to suggest that the drug has practical medicinal properties in mitigating the effects of (but not limited to) insomnia, epilepsy and various bodily pains. It is also considered by many professionals to be a highly conducive analgesic for cancer patients.
b) The drug's legalization (complete and medicinal) and decriminalization are on the rise in many states.
c) It's presence can be detected months after use. Thus, presence does not indicate habitual use.
d) Second hand inhalation may give false +.
