Ban EPS (Expandable Polystyrene) in Detroit, MI

Created by D.H. on November 08, 2016

There are quite a few reasons to ban expandable polystyrene, but here are just a few:

It's killing marine animals:
It is estimated that Americans throw away 25 billion polystyrene coffee cups a year. It also causes major issues for marine animals. Polystyrene is found lodged in the intestines of marine animals and ultimately causes death.

You can't recycle it and its here forever:
Due to the chemical process that turns polystyrene beads into EPS, it's nearly impossible to turn an EPS plate, for example, into an EPS takeaway box.
"You couldn't just take recycled Styrofoam cups and make moulds again because it's already expanded," says Joe Biernacki, professor of chemical engineering at Tennessee Tech University. "What you need are virgin polystyrene beads."

Lets join together and ban EPS
