Research conducted by the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA) shows that 76 countries around the world continue to prosecute people on the grounds of their sexual orientation. Penalties include imprisonment, and some nations even have laws on the books that punish same-sex acts with death.
We believe that U.S. taxpayer dollars should not be sent to countries that jail or murder their citizens for the "crime" of being gay or lesbian. We call upon the Obama Administration and the U.S. State Department to establish a policy prohibiting foreign aid to any nation that denies basic human rights to members of its LGBT community and threatens them with imprisonment or death.
