However, 8 million gallons of water are injected 2 miles into the ground per fracture. This does not include the 40,000 gallons of chemicals mixed with the water that contain such carcinogens and toxins as: lead, uranium, mercury, and 600 other similar chemicals.
Ground water is vulnerable as 50-70% of the fluid used is left in the ground and is not biodegradable. There are over 1,000 documented cases of drinking water contamination near drilling sites, as well as cases of sensory, respiratory, and neurological damage as a result.
France, Germany, and Vermont have all banned fracking.
