Ban funding of USDA horses, horse slaughterhouses, and horse meat inspection.

Created by D.G. on February 20, 2013

At least one state (Oklahoma) is trying to pass state laws supporting horse slaughterhouses. This would give rise to a new industry in Oklahoma to breed and raise horses for the purposes of butchering for meat. Opponents state that horses are intelligent animals who are companion and work animals.

Even if Oklahoma passes such laws, the butchering of horses for meat would effectively be stopped if there was a national ban on US Department of Agriculture (USDA) inspection of horses, horse slaughterhouses, and horse meat. Such a ban did exist until it was lifted last November when the amendment was attached to another bill.

This petition requests that funding of USDA inspections of horse slaughterhouses and horse meat be banned and not funded in any way.
