Ban Gas Chamber Euthanasia of Dogs and Cats

We demand a nationwide ban on gas chamber euthanasia of domesticated animals. There are an estimated 3 to 5 million dogs and cats killed in animal shelters in the U.S. annually. Only 20 states have banned gas chamber euthanasia. This barbaric practice consists of helpless dogs and cats stuffed in a small chamber (usually in groups) and gassed, most often using carbon monoxide or dioxide gas. The panicked animals slowly suffocate, often attacking each other and defecating all over themselves before death occurs, sometimes taking as long as 30 to 45 minutes. Independent cost analysis conducted in states that have banned gas chambers have proven that it does not cost more money to euthanize homeless animals with the much more humane injection method. Innocent animals deserve a humane death.
