Anyone who has a firearm and fails to secure it should be automatically banned, in the same way felons are banned, from ever possessing a firearm or being in a household that has guns.
We see it over and over where a child gets the family gun and tragedy happens. We see where young shooters use the family weapons to commit murder.
The failure of a gun owner to keep their gun out of the wrong hands is not an accident. It is negligence and should disqualify that person from ever owning a gun again.
The same should apply to anyone who shows up with a gun at the airport and says they forgot they had it. If you forget you have a gun, you should not be allowed to possess one. The punishment of losing your guns rights if you don't secure your weapon could save a lot of children's lives.
