Hydraulic fracturing (or fracking) is the process drilling and injecting pressurized liquid into the ground in order to fracture shale rock and release the natural gases inside. Dangers of fracking include:
- It creates trillions of gallons of toxic waste water of which only 30-50% are recovered for disposal.
- Toxic chemicals leach from fracking wells to contaminate the drinking water of nearby cities.
- Aggressive industry lobbyist have successfully stripped citizens of their rights to ban the practice in their own communities.
In recognition of the dangers of fracking France and Bulgaria have banned the practice. Let's be next to ban this destructive process.
