Elections should be fair and free of the corrupting influences. This proposed law would not impinge of the freedom of any individual or corporation to exercise their freedom of speech in making a political donation. It would however place a ban individuals and corporations from bidding on federal contracts if they, an officer, a board member, or controlling shareholder have made donations to candidates for federal office or to 527 organizations supporting or opposing a federal candidate, regardless of political affiliation. As such, this would remove the appearance of political contributions being used as a quid pro quo in securing government contracts.
