Declawing, also known as onychectomy, is the amputation of all or most of the last bone of each of the toes of the animal’s feet. This procedure is brutal for an animal to endure and has lasting complications including chronic pain and behavioral changes.
Declawing is unnecessary and inhumane. This cruel practice is banned in eight US cities, including Los Angeles and San Francisco. In many countries, including the United Kingdom, Austria, Switzerland, and Sweden, declawing is illegal or is considered unethical by established professional veterinary organizations.
We as a country have made strides in protecting the voiceless animals, yet our laws still permit this cruel and inhumane torture to go on. It's time to step up and protect those who are unable to protect themselves.
