It is not really even a point of argument that the language in the second amendment is vague. “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Given the time period it was not unreasonable that citizens be able to be armed so that they could defend themselves, especially when the police forces of the time were not as highly organized as ours are today. One could not simply rely on police to break up a fight or let alone a police car driving quickly to the defense of an innocent citizen. Citizens also did not own semi automatic weapons then.
Today it is not reasonable to own ammunition for semiautomatic weapons or guns designed mainly for killing people when there are less lethal arms.
