In signing this petition, I am urging the administration to ban the environmentally-harmful and wasteful practice of mass balloon releases. Whether it be to celebrate the kick-off of a sporting event, draw attention to a cause, or to remember loved ones lost, releasing hundreds of pieces of litter into the air is irresponsible. Animals mistaking the balloons as food ingest the pieces or become entangled in the ribbons, causing starvation, injury, or death. Helium, a finite resource needed for scientific and manufacturing applications, is wasted. These fleeting moments result in dangerous consequences that can no longer go unaddressed.
