New York City Department of Consumer Affairs conducted a study to prove that the “pink tax” is an existing problem. The agency reviewed 800 products that are similar in appearance, ingredients, and packaging but one is marketed for men and the other, for females. They found out that 42% of the products cost more for women even if the product is exactly the same, but just pink. They took their research further and discovered that women pay 7% more for products that are equally designed and produced the same as some men products like razors. Everyone is affected by the gendered tax. The pink tax does not go away once you are at the check out. If you are a man or woman buying a pink razor or women's shampoo, even if not for yourself (guys), you are stuck with paying the pink tax.
