Ban the police practice of using the possession of condoms as evidence of prostitution.

Created by X.T. on March 07, 2013

A woman in New York City happens to be wearing a tight fitting shirt. She's out shopping for a romantic dinner with her boyfriend tonight, and happens to be in an area considered by the police to be high in prostitution traffic. She's got a condom or two in her purse.

On these grounds, an officer can stop, search and arrest her. Is this harassment fair?

NYPD officers often confiscate the condoms of those they judge to be possible prostitutes, which is counterproductive and doesn't do anything but make the risk of HIV/AIDs transmission higher. Hypocritically, these condoms are often free, distributed by the city.

Women all around the country will feel safer if this police practice is eliminated. This petition is asking to end the use of condoms as evidence of prostitution nationwide.
