Ban the possession, sale and distribution of shark fins.

Sharks worldwide are in grave need of our support. An estimated 75 million sharks are killed every year (compared to about 10 humans killed by sharks every year). The vast majority of this shark fishing is fueled by demand for shark fins, a necessary ingredient for the Chinese delicacy shark fin soup. While most of these fins are sent to Asian markets for consumption, many still make their way to the U.S. Over a decade ago, Bill Clinton signed the Shark Finning Prohibition Act of 2000. While this has helped, it has not stopped the slaughter. For this reason, I strongly urge the Obama administration to follow the lead already set by several states and ban the possession, sale and distribution of shark fins. Please help the United States set an example in conserving this vital resource.
