Ban the practice of clear-cutting in America's forests.

Created by S.L. on April 26, 2013

This petition is to put an end to the harmful forestry practice of clear-cutting and mono-culturing on America's forestlands. Each year, thousands of acres of forests are totally removed, desrtroying wildlife habitat, disturbing watersheds, and contibuting to climate change. This denuded land is then burned and/or sprayed with herbicides in order to create a more profitable, and less diverse forestland. The newly planted trees often fail to thrive, especially on steep slopes. Monocultured forests are vulnerable to total losses when stressed trees attract opportunistic pests and diseases. Clear-cutting also exposes dead vegetation causing it to dry, contributing to catastropic fires. These greed driven forestry practices are unnecessry and harmful to people and the environment
