Ban the practice of using Credit Reports and scores in housing and employment screening.

Created by E.A. on July 21, 2012

Credit Reports and Credit Scores are typically used by employers and landlords to screen potential employees and tenants. Neither of these uses has anything to do with extending credit, which is what Credit Reports/Scores were originally invented to screen for. A good or poor credit score has nothing to do with how good of an employee you will be. Likewise, it has nothing to do with whether you'll pay the rent on time or at all (in fact many renters have bad credit scores BECAUSE they chose to pay the rent (and not become homeless) rather than pay other bills - they'd rather have a bad credit rating than become homeless. Many people now have bad credit ratings because of the recent mortgage fraud that has devastated our economy. With a bad credit rating they are being denied homes.
