Prescription drug commercials have no place in television advertising. A decision was made many years ago to ban the advertising of cigarettes in the interest of public health and safety, and that decision should be expanded to include prescription drugs. Prescription drug abuse has become an epidemic in this country despite steps to regulate and curb such abuses. Prescription drug commercials tout products that relieve 1 symptom while creating a host of other side effects that can be even more deadly. Prescription drug use is often preceeded with warnings that they could cause death or thoughts of suicide. Most mass shootings incidents always seem to involve a suspect under the influence of a prescription drug seen on television. We should not be subjected to a barrage of drug peddling.
