We are all familiar with the story of Willy Wonka. On the surface it is a cautionary tale about vice. It has been made into two films full of vibrant imagery and music. However, we as a society need to look beneath the surface and recognize the true message being displayed, that slavery in a modern society is not only a-ok but encouraged.
Mr. Wonka was a proud owner of slaves. In the films the black man is parodied as a song and dance tribe of orange faced men called Oompa Loompas. These people were subjugated and exploited by Mr. Wonka. To add insult to injury, once Mr. Wonka leaves the facility for good, he passes ownership to a young "master". This chocolate factory is nothing more than a modern day plantation!
This pro-slavery propoganda has no place in our society!
