Since the 911 Emergency system was created, we have been forced to hear an ever increasing number of audio clips of people in the grip of terror, perhaps trying to save the life of a family member, or in some cases in their own very last moments of life. These people called 911 for help, they didn’t call into a radio show. Nevertheless, in a few hours, their screams of pain, or terrible anguish will be blood sport on the evening news.
The NTSB and FAA have a long-standing policy that cockpit audio tapes are not released to the media. they are transcribed and released as text only.
I would request that the Federal Government apply the same standard to 911.
There is no honest value to releasing this audio to the media, it serves only to boost ratings at the expense of privacy!
