Tipping is an antiquated system that allows businesses to pay workers below minimum wage. We should ban tipping so that all workers enjoy a fair paycheck.
The system is designed to incentivize waiters, however studies have found that this does not work. In addition, many studies have found that racism and sexism heavily influence the amount that people tip. Tips are related to the size of the bill, however drastically different bills might not involve any different labor (such as serving a $10/glass of wine vs a $100/glass of wine).
Instead of relying on the goodness of people to leave a fair tip, we should ban the practice and force employers to give a fair wage. This way, consumers aren't left guessing their waiters' wages and how well other consumers have been tipping.
