Amendments are, by definition, changes to the Constitution. There is no reason why the Second Amendment should not bear a little amending. The Second Amendment is noble and good. But it was never meant to provide the types of weapons that one civilian could use to so easily kill many other civilians. People kill people, and when they can easily obtain a rapid-fire gun, they can kill a lot of them really fast. Obviously, the vast majority of hunters and gun collectors never kill anyone; they and all of us should always have the right to bear arms. But civilians do not need assault weapons, semi-automatic rifles or handguns, nor high-capacity magazines.
