People who keep tigers, lions, or venomous snakes as pets are often considered a curiosity, and when their "pets" escape, it is treated with humor. The truth is, there are hundreds of thousands of these 'exotic animals' in the US. There have been 1,610 attacks by exotics since 1990, including 75 deaths; and yet, some states have no regulations on these animals at all. There now even exists a lucrative market based on removing these animals from their natural habitats to sell in the US.
This could be solved by encouraging the House of Representatives to create a federal bill to ban the sale, ownership, and harboring of dangerous wild animals, and promising to sign it into law. It should be modeled after the Ohio Dangerous Wild Animal Act, as signed by Governor John Kasich in 2012.
